unexpected
an acrostic
Life is unexpected, wonderfully and terribly, but the shape of it doesn’t always make sense until you look at the whole picture, just like the odd choices you might make to construct an acrostic.
unexpected
A plus average (so far) (don’t jinx it), I stroll the
Boulevard at golden hour and
Catch a ride
Downtown to the show, returning with its sounds still
Echoing in my ears.
Flames lapped the shore and licked our heels
God’s judgment and
His mercy
Intertwined, our home escaped
Just barely, we were
Kept alive, preserved, a
Little longer we would linger.
May flowers quickly wilted
No where else to grow, when
Option is an illusion what even is the
Point? I screamed the song’s
Question as the new and cruel
Reality
Settled in my bones, my
Trust could not sustain any more
Unexpected realization that everything I grasp
Vanishes with my vision.
Weeping, wandering, wallowing become familiar rhythms, and bitterness like
Xanthippe’s digs into my skin, deeper than the chi rho on my wrist, I
Yearn for the yet, but You temper my
Zeal with great and good surprises.

"I yearn for the yet, but You temper my zeal with great and good surprises." Oh I feel that, and this is so good. Brilliant use of the acrostic (love how you use alliteration on some lines too for good measure)!
