singular thought cycle
Here is a little poem I wrote a couple weeks ago. Excitement has been looming for months, but now anxiety is accompanying it. Fun times, but we shall persevere.
I love the amount of personal references I was able to put in here. Will anyone else pick up on all of them? Probably not. But sometimes, you write for yourself and it ends up being relevant to other people too.
Like many of my poems, it was inspired by song lyrics, particularly the themes of “Loop Cycle” by The Gray Havens and “Routines in the Night” by Twenty One Pilots.
singular thought cycle
singular thought cycle like my playlist on repeat
of summer’s end nostalgia and next semester’s beat.
six years of my life linked by a paper chain;
this right here, the moment,
and I crash on the floor.
how can I expect this to end different than before?
notices and invoices and taxes filed wrong,
a million projects piling up i can’t focus on.
this week passed so suddenly but what is there to show?
I’m anxious for august in more ways than one;
my eyes, sagged with sleeplessness, swell when the pressure’s on.
