into a sea so wide
there is nothing like the sensation of standing in the sea
into a sea so wide
it hits me
as sudden and sharp and blinding as
the sun’s rays to my eye:
here i am, a speck in the grand scheme of things.
how can it be that this horizon goes on and on beyond
and i am here at the edge of it?
my toes sink into the sand, the water rushes round my ankles,
and pulls back again.
i still feel the phantom sensation
of her luring me in,
rolling away the ground from underneath my feet.
how can it be that i can wade
into a sea so wide,
that i can stand in something so ancient and alive,
feeling the pulse, the push and pull,
of providence divine.
